What’s on your iPod Playlist?

I was just listening to one of the playlists in my iPod and I noticed something that I wanted to get your feed back on.

Do you have any songs, that if someone told you to listen to these two songs right in a row, you would just think, “what are you talking about?” I’d rather mix orange juice and milk before I listen to those two song next to each other! But, and here is where we really come to where I’m looking for your feed back, after giving it a try (perhaps with a little bit of green eggs and ham prodding by your friend) you find that you actually like hearing these songs one right after the other? Almost like when you try a really nice bottle of wine (I mean really good bottle of special occasion wine) with pizza or so-so chinese take out. Or maybe, it becomes like wearing a paisley tie with a horizontal stripped shirt? Something that most people most of the time shouldn’t try, but a select few people under the right circumstances can pull off.

Why even bother asking this sort of question? Well I think I just might have that sort of song combo on my iPod (as if you didn’t see that one coming). Now before I tell you what this combination is, let me lay down some ground rules. I don’t want this to become all about bashing peoples (mine or anyone else’s) tastes in music or whether these songs have any artistic merit in and of themselves. I want to this be about how you mixed classical music and hip-hop, Eighties-synthesizers-pop with folk, or disco and country and were successful.

So without any further stalling on my part, my two songs are: Abba’s Money, Money, Money and ‘Til Tuesday’s Voices Carry. Two songs, that I happen to enjoy on my work day commute, but never thought they would sound good next to each other. I have no idea what liking these songs says about me, and I’m sure I don’t want to know. What I do want to know is what two songs have you put together in some sort of playlist that you we pleasantly surprised they worked together, or maybe you don’t think it could ever happen and you have always known what sounds good together before you tried it. Either way, let me know your experiences.

I love this idea!! I haven’t tried it yet, Dan, but when I read your choices, I was intrigued. Now I need to go find both and listen on youtube, then try a few of my own. I do this with cooking all the time (I am a poor sigle person) and have been (at times) pleasantly surprised. At other times, completely disgusted. (Peanut butter and jelly w/ soysauce marinade–yuk)

Thanks Anna-Marie! Let us know what you find out after your music research. I also agree that peanut butter and jelly w/ soy sauce doesn’t sound so good.
